PRESIDENT'S NEW YEAR MESSAGE 2012

A Happy New Year to you all. I suppose it is too much to ask that it should be a prosperous one in times of austerity but I sincerely hope it will be a healthy one. I have been touched by the positive and generous response to my proposal that my charity this year should be the purchase of a defibrillator for the Club. I was prompted to do this by reason of having seen a life saved by the presence of this apparatus in a bowls club in Australia and whilst I hope it will never be needed in our club we never thought anyone would set fire to the club did we! We have almost reached our target figure and all we need now is for some volunteers to come forward for the simple training to use the machine in due course.

Talking about a good response what a superb night we had on New Year's Eve with about 70 people in attendance. Terry Sinnick's music got everyone in the mood helped by the administration of good spirit by Carol, Alan and Margaret behind the bar. Annette's "birdie" quiz, Leo's Irish Bingo and Colin's shambolic but hilarious 12 days of Christmas all contributed to the fun but it would not have been such a success without the contribution made by everyone who attended, encouragingly including a number of newer members.

Our Club now looks superb, the membership is strong and enthusiastic and we are financially sound. With your help we can enjoy good bowling, good friendship and that good feeling you get from being part of "Our Club", for many years to come.

Sylvia Lawley ,

Club President.

CAPTAIN’S CORNER

We are not doing so well in the Wessex League this season after having got through to the last 16 last season. This is mainly due to some of our players not being available. At the moment, we are 5th in the league with only 4 matches to play.

In the Leonard Denny Memorial Trophy, Adam Tidby and his rink, along with Darren Nutman and his rink beat Bournemouth and now play Moonfleet in the next round on 30 January 2012.

Both Dorchester Alpha and Dorchester Beta are 2nd in their respective Purbeck Trophy Leagues with Alpha beating Moonfleet 'A' 4-2 and Wellworthy 'A' 6-0. The Beta team had an excellent 6-0 win over Bournemouth who had been unbeaten until then and then continued their success with a 6-0 win over Wellworthy 'B'.
